I think one of the most charming aspects of this WordPress community is the generous willingness to share knowledge. Topics like:

and on and on. It is a remarkable wealth of experience, information and knowledge available to everyone.

This incredible wealth of sharing and curiosity is right inline with my recent Life of Try podcast conversation with Bruce Dorey, PhD. In his book, Lift: Passing the Craft, Bruce provides a research-based framework for how we can mentor and provide lift to others.

A few key takeaways from this conversation:

  • Lift, whether it be for an airplane or in our interactions with others, does not happen in a vacuum. We need to engage with others to have the opportunity to pass on our expertise.
  • Bruce talks about how many of the master artists like Rodin were part of a guild and employed many young artists in the making of art. He surfaces the craftsman model: journeyman, apprentice and master for passing on knowledge. He shares ways we can do that in business, not just the trades.
  • We delve into the power of awe and the innovative way that Bruce uses virtual reality (VR) to incorporate awe into his work rhythm.

  3. Wonderful and uplifting (pun intended) conversation, Wynne – and so fascinating to use mechanical engineering as the metaphor for leadership and lift.

    I agree that leadership is the intersection between people and the environment and is something we can and should all hone on a continued basis.

    I also appreciate the progressive view on technology and the insights on how to leverage AI and immersive technology as a tool to support personal growth and developing others.

    Sunsets are indeed beautifully moving and something I’m taking the moment to take in as the summer days get shorter!

    1. I realized as I started that list that I’d never be able to do it justice with all the amazing blogs like yours that I love. So I think I’m going to do a blog roll on Monday so that we have a full list!!

  9. Hmmm, I’ve been using AI more and more. Just today, it was helping me with some technical stuff with my editing software and Word. I like to think that’s an example of getting ahead in my creative work. ☺️ I like that. I also happen to touch on elements of being creative in tomorrow’s post, the timing is funny there. Anyway, I’m almost afraid to use VR because I know that I would like it TOO much. It sounds very, very cool. It is right up my alley! Thanks, Wynne for an interesting listen.
