Fifteen Things I’m Grateful I Did With My Kids This Year

The soul is healed by being with children.” – Fyodor Dostoyevsky

Went to a spray park on a rainy, cold day

Chased after the ice cream truck

Traveled to my childhood home town and rode the carousel a gazillion times

Built sand castles

Walked on the beach

Went back to find the little bit of plastic that we dropped on the beach when we realized we’d accidentally littered

Held our puppy

Dragged us all to puppy kindergarten class

Watched sunrises and cried when perfect days end

Played hockey with a tennis ball in the front hallway

Listened to their young voices telling me they are es-perts and wisdom that includes magic of fairies, hopes, and togetherness

Laughed about silly stuff

Talked about outside hurts and inside hurts

Celebrated doing hard things

Said yes… to all of the above and more

  1. Thank you Wynne for sharing your life with us, for inspiring wonder in us all, and allowing us to return to our own innocence in and through your sweet children. What a year it has been indeed and I love that you shared the experience for which you are most grateful. Just beautiful. Here’s to another year of laughter and joy. Cheers to 2024. Hugs, C

  3. This list made me smile, the many fun times — and the times when you “celebrated doing hard things.” I’m glad you added that last item on the list. It speaks to feeling good about achievement 🙂

  5. I love all the memories you make with your kids. They’ll cherish all these moments for the rest of their lives, mark my words. After my divorce, I tried very hard to do the same. I didn’t always succeed, but for the most part, did okay.

    1. I love this beautiful comment. Thank you, Mark! I bet you did awesome with your kids. I don’t know anyone that always succeeds but at least we can create as many good memories as possible before they fly away! 🙂
