Sunday Funnies: Dec. 18

Another installment from my dad’s humor cards.

The backstory: My dad was a Presbyterian pastor for 40 years. He kept a well curated stack of humor cards – little stories he heard, found or saw and then typed onto 5×7 cards. Then he wrote in the margins when he used that particular item. His humor was often an easy way to settle in to something deeper – by laughing and thinking about the buried truth in these little nuggets, it paved the way to an open heart.

When we cleaned out his desk after he died 7 years ago, I was lucky enough to stumble on this stack. I pull it out regularly to have a little laugh with my dear Dad. Now when I post one of them, I write my note next to his and it feels like a continuation.

Signs That You’re Over the Hill

<continued from last week>

You look both ways before crossing a room

You keep repeating yourself.

You come to the conclusion that your worst enemy is gravity.

You frequently find yourself telling people what a loaf of bread USED to cost.

You realize a stamp today costs more than a picture show did when you were growing up.

Your childhood toys are now in a museum.

Many of your co-workers were born in the same year that you got your last promotion.

The clothes that you’ve put away until they come back in style – come back in style.

All of your favorite movies are now re-released in color.

The car that you bought brand new becomes an antique.

You keep repeating yourself.

You find this list tasteless and insensitive.

      1. Victoria, thank you for following Voices! I have just followed you too, but am a bit puzzled about not being able to make a comment on your post. Am I missing something? Read and love your bubble gum post. I can relate!

      2. Hi, again – I just peeked at discussion/comment settings and there shouldn’t be a problem with posting a comment. Hmmm…maybe WP is tired today? 😉 Thank you for letting me know…and since we’re chatting on Wynne’s thread here, maybe she can be our troubleshooter – LOL – like she needs one more thing to do!

      3. I do think something weird is going on with WP and maybe it really does need that Sunday nap! I bet it will take care of itself…but it is strange. I’m not seeing you as a follower or that I’m following you! 😉 WP needs a time out!

  1. I can’t tell about “tasteless,” Wynne, because the format doesn’t permit me to take a bite. Seriously, your dad keeps cheering us on!

    1. My dad used to say that you knew when you were old because when you bend to tie your shoes, you look for what else you can do while you’re down there. And I can totally relate to that as well as crossing rooms! 🙂 Happy Sunday, my friend!

      1. Okay, that’s too funny. I did that this morning already, noticing that Sadie’s left some pieces of kibble on the rug…LOL. Yeah…while I’m here…I’ll tidy up. 😜

  2. Haha I love these. Your dad was such a character. Feeling like an antique and seeing things I grew up with being referred to as such definitely resonates with me.
