Life is a canvas. It’s up to you, what colors you choose to paint this canvas of life into a beautiful Masterpiece.” – unknown

Ah, the joys of learning to roller skate.

We got a new boxing toy. Anyone want to guess how many times we played “Eye of the Tiger” by Survivor this week? Exactly right — enough to make you want to go out a punch something!

My work colleagues were in town this week. Seattle did a great job showing itself off with spectacular weather.

Thanksgiving theme for the neighborhood skeleton and soda display! It’s been a while since we’ve had a good soda design.

Cooper and his puppy kindergarten posse.

Heart and sign of the week. I selected this sign for its straightforward approach to letting customers know what to expect from their local coffee shop.

The kids are accusing me of only taking pictures of Cooper. Which is unfair because I let them be in pictures with Cooper. 🙂

Squeezing in the last bits of summer – going out for ice cream and even spending some time down on the Seattle Waterfront.

The heart of the week is a water dot on Cooper’s forehead. A bit of a stretch, I know. So I’m making up for it with a cool Shakespeare sign of the week.

Sunday Funnies: August 13

A re-run of my dad’s humor cards. They make me chuckle all over again – so I hope you enjoy them whether it’s the first time or second (first posted on 7/3/2022).

The backstory: My dad was a Presbyterian pastor for 40 years. He kept a well curated stack of humor cards – little stories he heard, found or saw and then typed onto 5×7 cards. Then he wrote in the margins when he used that particular item. His humor was often an easy way to settle in to something deeper – by laughing and thinking about the buried truth in these little nuggets, it paved the way to an open heart.

You might be from the Northwest if you…

Feel guilty throwing aluminum cans in the trash.

Use the expression “sun break” and know what it means.

Know more people who own boats than air conditioners.

Feel overdressed wearing a suit to a nice restaurant.

Stand on a deserted corner in the rain waiting for the “walk” signal.

Consider that if it has no snow or has not recently erupted, it’s not a real mountain.

In winter, go to work in the dark and come home in the dark – while only working 8-hours days.

Obey all traffic laws except “Keep right except to pass.”

Never go camping without waterproof matches and a poncho.

Are not fazed by “Today’s forecast: showers followed by rain” and “Tomorrow’s forecast: rain followed by showers.”

Have not concept of humidity without precipitation.

Know that Boring is a town in Oregon and not just a state of mind.

Can point to at least two volcanoes, even if you can’t see through the cloud cover.

Children learn more from what you are than what you teach.’ – W.E.B. Dubois

We didn’t do much this week. It was all gray skies and screen time so we just gutted out the last week of March and didn’t have any fun.

APRIL FOOLS!!

Because we did manage to have quite a bit of fun this week. Including, Mr. D working out his tetherball technique with Nana.

A 2nd grade class field trip to the Seattle Center.

Practicing assembly skills so that one day they can put together their own IKEA furniture.

The kids taught me never to cede high ground in a squishmallow fight.

A blossom heart creation.

And our favorite gas station being a little cheeky.

Seafair in Seattle – an incredible show on a beautiful day. (Anyone that wants to see the Blue Angels’ farewell flyover video I captured see my instagram @wynneleon)

Also spotted at Seafair – a kayaker with a dog wearing googles. Nothing more Seattle than that!

Mr. D practicing his breakfast chef skills. Buzz Lightyear and the fire truck are there in case something goes wrong.

I don’t think I’ve ever gone to the Seattle beaches as much as summer of 2022.

This sign reminded me of Julia Preston who is always luminous but was especially so this week.

What lit you up this week?

Another installment from my dad’s humor cards.

When we cleaned out his desk after he died 7 years ago, I was lucky enough to stumble on this stack. I pull it out regularly to have a little laugh with my dear Dad. Now when I post one of them, I write my note next to his and it feels like a continuation.

Beachcombing on Salmon Bay

We visited a friend who was staying near the railroad crossing over Salmon Bay outside of the locks in Seattle. An incredibly beautiful spot full of all sorts of treasures and fun!

I’ve previously published photos of the great viewing room that we have at the local dump but this past weekend, we coordinated a visit so that my mom could go up into the viewing room with the kids to watch while I drove in to deposit the old hot tub cover below. I know it’s not what usually counts for fun on a Saturday – but my kids love it!

Target sells these great bubble fans for $5 and they provide priceless fun!

I spotted this rock on a neighborhood walk. It’s my segue to asking – how was your week?
