“Dogs do speak, but only to those who know how to listen.” – Orhan Pamuk
When I first started this blog, it was mostly a place for the pictures I took of my dear dog, Biscuit, and the signs he’d pose with. And even though I wrote them, I swear I was channeling his sweet and funny messages, referee calls, and commentary on life. Every once in a while the cat would get to pose with a sign as well. Here’s a slideshow of some of his best signs:
So I felt wordless when Biscuit died six years ago at almost 14-years-old. The day after he passed, all I had was a sign for the cat who seemed equally as lost:

That space and time we need to find our words again after something monumental has happened in our lives is the subject of my Wise & Shine post for today: Writing From The Heart

Love these dog and cat speech bubbles, truly inspired!

Agreed: and what an absolutely fantastic theme for a blog. It takes a lot of skill to capture so much with such few words, not many have it, hat off too you, Wynne!

Oh, thank you, EW – you are so kind. I swear that I was just channeling the dog (and every once in a while the cat) for the most part! 🙂

Get him some stripes since he is apparently a football referee!

Before I had a family, I thought it would be fun to run it as a sporting event. My plan was to just give babysitters a ref jersey when they came over. I had so much fun with those sports posts! Thanks for picking up on that, Dr. Stein!

I love your signs! My daughter did a few with her pug. Waffles had his own insta account, but they took it down. I think dog accounts should be allowed! I also got teary looking through your lovely pics.

They don’t allow dog accounts? Geez, that’s a shame – our dogs have so much wisdom! Love that Waffles was doing some signs as well. Thanks for sharing that story.

These are brilliant, really, you are a true dog whisperer! Makes me miss my Shaggy. The one that hit me today was “Faith is trusting that what is thrown at you is just what you need.” I’m going to chew on that…hugs, C

Oh, thank you, Cheryl! Shaggy sounded amazing too. Those Portuguese water dogs are wonderful. And regardless of the breed – they are just such wonderful companions. Glad you like the faith one. Biscuit got to eat a lot of Ritz while I tried to get that one right… 🙂

Oh, this had me smiling and then broke my heart a bit. Biscuit looks he was such a wonderful and patient companion. My parents lost their 4-year-old golden, Misha, a few years ago to liver disease and it felt like he’d been a part of the family for decades. Thank you for sharing your sweet memories and fun pictures of Biscuit! ❤️

These photos of Biscuit and the quotes are so touching. The loss of a beloved pet is truly a hard one to process even years later.
I really enjoyed the quote from Pascal. It really is true about our intuition and faith and how they supersede logic and reason sometimes.
Grief is an interesting process and I too find it too hard to write when it is too raw and there is no distance. Emotions overcome reason and logic during these times.
