Another installment from my dad’s humor cards.
The backstory: My dad was a Presbyterian pastor for 40 years. He kept a well curated stack of humor cards – little stories or observations that he typed onto 5×7 cards. Then he wrote in the margins when he used that particular item. His humor was often an easy way to settle in to something deeper – by laughing and thinking about the buried truth in these little nuggets, it paved the way to an open heart.
When we cleaned out his desk after he died 7 years ago, I was lucky enough to stumble on this stack. I pull it out regularly to have a little laugh with my dear Dad. Now when I post one of them, I write my note next to his and it feels like a continuation.
Thoughts for Pondering
Conscience is what hurts when everything else feels so good.
I don’t mind going nowhere as long as it’s an interesting path.
Indecision is the key to flexibility.
If it ain’t broke, fix it till it is.
In just two days, tomorrow will be yesterday.
My inferiority complex is not as good as yours.
I am in shape. Round is a shape.
I have kleptomania, but when it gets bad I take something for it.
You’re getting old when you get the same sensation from a rocking chair that you once got from a roller coaster.
The real art of conversation is not only to say the right thing at the right time, but also to leave unsaid the wrong thing at the tempting moment.
Life not only begins at forty, it begins to show.
.
If you like these, a previous post has more of them. This includes my all-time favorite: One of life’s mysteries is how a two-pound box of candy can make us gain five pounds.
Lol..love these

These are so great, as always. These two made me chuckle out loud:
– If it ain’t broke, fix it till it is.
– My inferiority complex is not as good as yours.
And this ever feels so hopeful to me:
– In just two days, tomorrow will be yesterday.
Happy Sunday! 🙏💕

I’ll be working on that one forever…

Me too! Must be why they are funny – because they have that element of being true. 🙂 Happy Sunday, Deb!

That’s so funny that you say that because someone suggested it last week. I hadn’t thought of it til then but now here’s a second suggestion. Hmmm…
Thanks for reading and commenting, Patty!

What a lovely comment – and so accurate to call my dad funny and wise. It’s so fun to publish these and get to talk about him because I just adored him, if you can’t tell. 🙂 Hope you are having a lovely Sunday! Thanks for reading and commenting, I always appreciate your gentle encouragement! ❤

I copied (plagiarized?) your dad’s list so that I can use the occasional tidbit in the monthly newsletter that i write for my condo building. The first one I’ll use is “The real art of conversation is not only to say the right thing at the right time, but also to leave unsaid the wrong thing at the tempting moment.” Seems fitting for the occasional wagging tongue! I hope you won’t mind. (Or your dad)! Thanks for sharing his chuckles.

I don’t mind at all! I suspect that he got them somewhere but he doesn’t do many attributions on his card so either he heard them verbally and collected them?? I Googled the one above — which I think sounds perfect for the condo monthly newsletter and I can just imagine how well that newsletter is written — and Goodreads says it’s a quote from Dorothy Neville although another link said it was anonymous. https://www.goodreads.com/quotes/249912-the-real-art-of-conversation-is-not-only-to-say But by all means, you can use any that you want as far as I’m concerned! 🙂 ❤

Thanks Wynne! I’ll check out the Goodreads link. Meanwhile, for some reason this response and another one of yours landed in my junk file. I can’t imagine why, since there are so many others that didn’t. Go figure! Anyway, I’m glad I found it!

Oh, thanks for letting me know that. Maybe because it had a link in it?
Whatever it is, I’m glad you solved it. So grateful to be connected to you! Hope you had a lovely Sunday!
