For the Love of Soup

You are the sum total of everything you’ve ever seen, heard, eaten, smelled, been told, forgot – it’s all there.” – Maya Angelou

When I was in elementary school, I lived one block from school. One of the best things about the proximity was that I could walk home for lunch. What I remember most about those lunches is that my mom often fed me soup: split pea, tomato, potato, and chicken noodle.

Fair to say, I have a lot of fond memories about soup. So I really enjoyed the Episode 98: Soup’s On podcast conversation I had with Vicki Atkinson and blogger and teacher, Beth Kennedy, over a big pot of soup.

Metaphorically speaking of course because we’re separated by three different time zones. But otherwise, we can really stretch the goodness of soup.

Beth tells us why she likes soup so much to inspire more than 20 posts over the years. We discuss the multicultural as well as the community aspect of it.

Vicki and I ask about how she finds the terrific quotes to go with the hearty content. Beth shares some of the unusual sources that you wouldn’t expect in a quote about soup.

We laugh about the different concoctions we’ve made and share the recipes – not only for a wonderful meal but also for community and connection.

We also talk about the Himalayan stew that inspired Beth’s post and how it’s like the melting pot of Everest Base Camp.

This is a great episode that will feed you on many levels. With an accompanying recipe, it’s great inspiration on the literal level. But also on the story-telling, creativity, and collaboration levels as well.

I’m confident you’ll love the scenic and beautiful places we explore as we share the power of storytelling over a cup of good soup.

We know you’ll love it!

  1. Everywhere I turn today on WP, I’m reading about great food. EA wrote about In-and-Out Burgers. You guys are reminding me of the great chili my mother used to make. Of course, now I’m starving. Love it Wynne. So, I must ask, do you guys deliver? Ha, ha.

  2. I also went home for lunch during elementary school. Soup was so often on the menu for us, as well. Can anything been the tomato soup, grilled cheese and Flintstones combo? I so no way 🙂

The episode was most enjoyable and it is a pleasure to make your acquaintance, Wynne

  3. Soup is the most comforting and wonderful food that heals our heart and body. Funny thing is I just literally dipped into a bite of my minestrone soup which I NEVER make .. my husband said it was the BEST ever. I take that as a major compliment for NEVER making soup. Of course it was from Barefoot Contessa but I see that Beth is a contender. Love the laughs and I too love soup and savory for breakfast. A warming and fun post, guys! 👏👏👏

  4. I have been looking forward to this post since you announced the guest the last time you posted a podcast! I’ve been a follower of Beth’s blog for as long as I can remember… and it’s funny I remember her posts about teaching kinders, but never about soup. Looking forward to listening. To the podcast. Thanks and have a fabulous Saturday.

  5. Soups are so comforting, especially this time of the year, and I can only imagine the joyful and insightful conversation the three of you had about soup! I look forward to listening to this episode later as I, and this is a total coincidence, try making a soup using fennel for the first time. Hope you’re all keeping warm this weekend.

      1. I’ll keep you posted. It’s this afternoon. We’ll see how much T actually participates. Not sure I wanna be having him hold a big knife but alas… 😆

  6. My daughter makes a tomato soup that the kids prefer to Campbell soup, which I believe is quite an accomplishment. They get excited if it’s on the menu for the week. Served of course with grilled cheese sandwiches.

  7. This quote is spot on – “You are the sum total of everything you’ve ever seen, heard, eaten, smelled, been told, forgot – it’s all there.” – Maya Angelou. And I cherished your evolution of soup stories in this podcast! ❤️

  8. I love soup so it’s on my list to listen to your podcast.
Not only during cold, frosty days do I lap it up but also on those thirst quenching summer days, when Granddaughter couldn’t quite believe I was having soup! 😀
