“Sometimes I think that ideas float through the atmosphere like huge squishy pumpkins, waiting for heads to drop on.” Neil Gaiman
Mr. D recently saw some Halloween decorations put up at a friend’s house and said, “Yay, Halloween!! I’ve been waiting for it for years!” So for anyone who has been waiting YEARS for Halloween, this week’s photos are for you!

Waiting and pumpkin carving

Our Halloween decorations

Trying out the alien carrying a boy Halloween costume and a rainbow. Or it that the afterburn of the alien ship? 🙂

Or local grocery store soda display. And in a lovely bit of synchronicity this week, one of my favorite quotes is sign of the week and was also mentioned in a post on Writing from the Heart with Brian, Trying My Best.
(featured photo is mine – doesn’t that cloud look like a rocket?)
My niece is so excited for Halloween, too, even if she doesn’t have costume. 🤭 Amazing photos of Mr. D and Miss O. I like the saying, too. It will be okay.

Halloween starts so early, and so do so many other holidays these days. I love the joy of Halloween that kids have of becoming something or someone for a day and running through the neighborhood in search of candy. Oh, what a holiday for kids and this year it falls on a Friday! Love the sign, because in the end… it is all okay.

You capture the fun of Halloween so well, Clay! Yes – on a Friday, even!! Thanks, Clay! Wishing you a fantastic weekend!

I love that costume! I also love that he has been waiting years for Halloween!! It most likely feels like years for him. Halloween is a fun time and I used to love making costumes for my kids. One year I created the entire KISS costumes for my son and his buddies.

Oh my goodness – you are such a fun mom, Darlene! What a costume year that must have been!

I also made a Red Riding Hood costume for my daughter that year. The photograph was very funny with all four members of KISS and Little Red Riding Hood in front.

I love Halloween decorations. There’s a house on our street that puts on a very impressive haunted house display every year. I always feel bad that we live on a quiet street and not many people see it.

That does sound impressive. They must do it for the joy of doing it!! Thanks, Michelle!

I think they do. They work on it for weeks and put the finishing touches on Halloween day. We have another house on the street that does a similar display at Christmas. We’ve affectionately dubbed them the Griswold’s. 😂

The cloud looks like an arrow to me. Maybe the man in the moon is planning on going to his Halloween party as Robin Hood

It’s that wonderful time of the year for kids and families! I love Mr D’s shoes and you must must must post a video of him being abducted by the alien. Those over the top short reels always crack me up. We’re getting our pumpkins next week and can’t wait to dive into carving.
Have a nice weekend all!

I know exactly what you mean. We have one of Miss O from when she was like 5. So fun!
You are smart to wait. Ours are already moldy. Mr. D and I were waiting for a new antibiotic after yet another doctor appointment for this skin infection he’s been dealing with so I caved early. 🙂
Have a great weekend!

Great photo’s Wynne and refreshing to see the excitement for Halloween celebrations. Over here in the UK there are many grumps who moan about it ☹️ but I usually display pumpkins and ghostly figures and masks in the porch and windows. Not forgetting the treats for the children who have made the effort in their costumes. Well done to all of them. 👌

I love that you ignore the grumps! Right!

That’s a good point about the soda artist. They have several designs that they’ve made over the years so it’s either easier than we think it is or a labor of love. 🙂

What a sweet, uplifting post. I love that Neil Gaiman quote about squishy pumpkins and that quote on the gas station sign is so hopeful-I love it! Happy Fall, Wynne!

What a fun week! I bet waiting for Halloween feels like years as a kid, waiting for the amazing candy haul.
LikeLiked by 1 person
You’re so right – it does feels like years. Funny thing is that Mr. D doesn’t really like candy but they fact that they can run around and get it themselves seems to make it tastier! 🙂

I love that! Yes, there is something extra exciting about free candy and collecting it yourself as a kid that makes it extra special and exciting! 🙂

Mr D comes in “handy.” The sign is best understood as dependent on a heavenly outcome, is it not? Thanks, Wynne.
LikeLiked by 1 person
I don’t see it as a heavenly outcome – more that what we’re wound up about on a daily basis we’ll all work out. And that if we keep working and trying, we’ll get somewhere.

I love that costume, Wynne! How fun! I used to make costumes for my daughter – mostly princesses. I saved them and my granddaughters wore them for dressing up. They went to a Halloween store and got their costumes. We haven’t decorate for Halloween yet because it was raining the last few days. It didn’t rain today which was good because my daughter’s family went to the pumpkin patch and I joined them. It would be muddy had it rained.
I read your About page and appreciated your message and story. Sorry about your dad died of bike accident. My husband’s best friend (neighbor) died of bike accident. Hubby was griefing for several years.

Full of joy, as always, Wynne 🧡. At first glance, I thought the first photo was of Miss O because of the size of the body. At the risk of continuing to sound like somebody’s granny… Lawd, has that child grown! 😁🥰

Your photos are great, Wynne, and I love how your son has been waiting for years! The perspective of youth, right? I love the costume, rainbow, and store display, and of course, that saying is classic. Our block has been ‘dead’ (no pun intended) for many years. So, we miss the times when our kids were little and the neighborhood was teeming with trick-or-treaters. Happy early Halloween and have fun! 🎃

Our block doesn’t do much for Halloween either but one block up the road is always teaming. It is so fun to feel that out and about spirit!

“Waiting for years” that’s so funny and reminded me of our son. He used to say similar things. The notion of time is not settled yet. That cloud definitely looks like a rocket. I couldn’t focus on the quote of the week because I got distracted by La Pirata Tortas, now I’m hungry.

Is the gas really $5/gallon???

It is, Kathy! I understand from the regular comments that it’s a shocker. That gas station is more expensive than most but we also pay a lot of gas tax to fund renewable energy and mass transportation initiatives. Thanks for stopping by!
