Photos of the Week: March 22

If you’re offered a seat on a rocket ship, don’t ask what seat. Just get on!” – Sheryl Sandberg

We went downtown for the St. Patrick’s Day parade. I’ve lived in Seattle for more than 35 years without realizing we had such a delightful parade complete with leprechauns and Irish Wolfhounds

While we were downtown, we rode the Seattle monorail and Miss O got her ears pierced.

At a birthday party, we experimented with the concept of getting the ball rolling. It’s almost comical how stereotypical this picture is with the older sibling telling the younger one, “I’ll just push it up the hill and get the ball rolling for you.” Turns out even light beach balls can pack a wallop with enough speed. Who knew? πŸ™‚ [Fortunately no younger siblings were hurt in the making of this picture.]

Also this week, Mr. D wanted to learn how to grill and he’s taking the role seriously. πŸ™‚

In an one thing led to another progression, we set the Crocodile Cave up in the backyard and…

The kids had a water fight. It was not swimsuit weather (at least not in my book at about 48 degrees) but at least they filled the guns with warm water.

And that wraps up a pretty typical week on our rocket ship hurtling towards adulthood complete with love (and ice cube hearts) and a punny sign of the week.

  1. It’s amazing that St Patrick’s Day is celebrated all over the world. They do a huge parade here in our little corner of Spain. I love the nose joke! Looks like a fun week.

  2. Oh my….48 degrees and water play…didn’t y’all get enough of that at the St. Patrick’s Day parade? I got a shiver looking at the kids playing…but geez, they know how to have a good time, don’t they? Cheers to that. And is grill master Mr. D taking orders yet? 😜

      1. Oh my goodness…the fun those two would have. Paul would introduce his entire ‘grill curriculum’…rubs and sauces and all the ‘low and slow’ lessons he’s learned, LOL! Give my little grill master a big hug! πŸ₯°

  3. What a super weekend you all had! I’ve never checked out our St Paddy’s parade – I think, πŸ˜† – and really should do so one day.

Good for Miss O for the piercing. Another sign of getting older! And Mr D is ready to host a backyard bbq!

Enjoy your weekend and first days of Spring!

  4. I loved the St.Patrick’s Day parade and the metaphor of the ‘rocket ship hurtling towards adulthood’ and that very punny sign outside Dunn’s Lumber. Time they got a new gag writer πŸ™‚

    1. I think you are right about needing a new writer, John! Hey – I emailed you at le************@yahoo.com.au to see if you’d be willing to come on our podcast. But the email got rejected. Would you be willing to come on?

  5. The college basketball tournament is going on right now. I like to enter these free pick-em contests. One year I won $1,500 by making the most correct picks. One of the ones I entered this year has a grand prize of getting a ride in a rocket ship. I’m not jokingβ€”it’s sponsored by X (formerly Twitter). Hundreds of thousands of people enter, so the odds of winning are astronomical, but I might have to turn it down on principle, considering the source. 🀣

    1. How interesting about the contest, Pete! Love that you said “the odds are astronomical.” πŸ™‚ Ha, ha, ha. Yes, you have a great point about turning it down on principle! Happy Sunday, my friend!

  6. Hehehe! Kids don’t need hot weather to want to go swimming or play in the water! My granddaughter visited last week and had trouble understanding why the outdoor pools weren’t open, even though to us adults we were flabbergasted at her insistance.

  7. Fab fun and I’m cold just looking at it! What a cool mom you are and fun parade. Love the ear piercing and water slides encapsulating that tween stage of bridging both words with a built in barbecuer.. πŸ™ŒπŸ½πŸ’•

  8. I have such fond memories riding the Monorail! As a Washington resident, I voted in favor of Initiative 41 in 1997 (which won 53%-47%, I might add) and all the subsequent proposals to expand the monorail. I was pretty bummed that it never happened.

The Santa Crawl at Pike Place Market in December is a blast too.
