Photos of the Week: April 22

Whatever befalls the Earth, befalls the sons and daughters of the Earth. This we know. The Earth does not belong to people; people belong to the Earth. This we know. All things are connected like the blood which unites one family. All things are connected.” – Chief Seattle

In honor of Earth Day and inspired in part by Michelle at BoomerEcoCrusader, I’m changing up the photos of the week to be some of the things I’ve been lucky enough to see on planet Earth.

Mt Elbrus (part of the Caucus Mountain Range) in Russia

The Mexican Volcanoes

The Himalaya including Tengboche Monastery, the Khumbu Icefall and Mt. Everest left to right in the bottom row.

And my home territory – the mountains of the Pacific Northwest

And the waters of the Pacific Northwest.

Happy Earth Day, Everyone!

  1. Eeks. Is that you sitting on an ice plateau? However did you get there without slipping and risk breaking every bone in your body? Ice shoes, I suppose. And then—you had to get up and walk away safely . . . Anyhoo, fabulous photos and thanks for sharing!

    1. Such an interesting question, Julia. I don’t remember it being a hard task to pose on that ice seat – but maybe because it was just outside Everest Base camp so everything was icy. Or maybe I was too oxygen deprived in the thin air to remember? 😉 ❤ The thing I remember most about sleeping at base camp is how loud it is up there – the mountains and snow shift constantly sending out thundering echos of avalanches and snow slides all the time. It's fascinating!

      1. Wow, Wynne! I had no idea that it was so noisy up in them thar hills! How lovely that you didn’t get buried amidst one of those avalanches or snow slides! How adventurous and courageous you are, my dear!! I’m happy just to enjoy the pics!

  2. How blessed you are, Wynne, to have seen such wonders 🙂💕🙏 We live on a truly wondrous planet. I spent a few years shouting my concerns – to no avail – from the rooftops. I do my best, now, to quietly honour the earth by consciously living in a way that (I hope) does as little damage as possible. I fall short too much of the time, of course. But I have to believe that every little bit helps…🙏

  3. Fantastic photos Wynne, I agree that you have been lucky to see those beautiful mountains. Let’s hope that we, the human kind, will able to preserve them for the future generations.

  4. Thank you for sharing wonderful photos of your journey through life!.. as I grew up on the farm my dad always said “if I take care of the land, the land will take care of me” and hopefully I can carry on the tradition… 🙂

Hope you and family are having the mostest wonderfulest earth day ever and until we meet again..
May love and laughter light your days,
and warm your heart and home.
May good and faithful friends be yours,
    wherever you may roam.
May peace and plenty bless your world
    with joy that long endures.
    May all life’s passing seasons
bring the best to you and yours!

    1. Yes, it’s a volcano named Popocatepetl in Mexico. It’s been closed to climbers since the late 90’s. We were able to climb its sister mountain, 17,160 ft Ixtacchuatl (the other two pics in that bunch) which is completely snow covered since she’s not actively belching smoke. 🙂

      1. That must have been en amazing experience, Wynne. Climbing mountains – appreciating the views, as well as the achievement of climbing. But then to also see an active volcano. I can imagine that would have been exhilarating

  5. You know what? I forget, sometimes, because you’re so humble…that you’ve traveled the world as an elite athlete…mountaineer extraordinaire. Thank you so much for sharing the montage of photos. I love it. 🥰

  10. Thanks for sharing your beautiful photos, Wynne. I’m happy to hear you took some inspiration from my post. Your photos from the pacific northwest have me looking forward to my summer vacation on Vancouver Island and my trip to Seattle in August—although the Seattle trip will be work with very little downtime to explore.
