The Coming Radiance

I’m not sure how many of you also followed Martha Hendricks of the White Hair Grace blog so forgive me for introducing someone you might already know. But for anyone who wasn’t, Martha was an 80-year-old blogger with non-Hodgkins lymphoma and sharing the stories of getting old gracefully. She had a lot of roles in her life. In her words, she was “professional classical singer; a Norwegian rosemaler; a pastor. And now a writer. “

I say “was” because she passed away this past August. But not before penning an incredible post that is as much about living as it is dying. So I’m reblogging this beautiful writing from an lovely woman:

Dear friends, I am Martha’s eldest son posting these final words that mom felt she needed to share. She wrote this post August 12th, but didn’t publish it. My mom passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family this past Sunday, August 21st. She so loved writing this blog and sharing her life with all of you. Thank you all for the joy you gave her. She is with her beloved Dwight once again.

My dear readers and followers – Hello again! Surprise!

When I wrote my last blog in May and closed out my White Hair Grace page, I thought that my work of seeking out the miracles of grace had reached a kind of natural conclusion. Of course, the best of intentions meet up with life’s larger plans, and here…

  1. Thank you, Wynne. I didn’t have the privilege of following Martha’s blog. The entirety of her post was moving, but nothing more so than how she shared her journey of finding grace — what it looks like, feels like, sounds like. Grateful to you for bringing Martha forward this morning. ❤

  2. What a wonderful tribute to a woman who was walking the walk of doing her part to make this a better world.

I hope her son keeps her blog up and doesn’t take it down, for her words will continue to help many who come across it. Blessings.

  3. I never read Martha’s blog, but thank you for sharing this. I have followed other cancer blogs in the past, because I have a great respect for those who are able to face death with courage and grace…and it sounds like that was very much Martha. I hope she (and her family) are finally at peace now.

    1. A beautiful comment, Mark. I like what you say about the courage and grace of those going through cancer. I hope she is at peace too and I suspect she is since she was so much so before her death.

  4. I too had not read Martha’s blog, but what a great find Wynne! Surfing through her blog I learned she had resided in southern Minnesota, a place near and dear to my heart! May we all be blessed with grace and love, as we saunter through our life.

  5. So many thoughts and so many emotions. And yet, it seems that anything I might say would be trite in comparison to this incredible woman – and thus, would be a disservice to her. I guess I’ll leave it at this: I regret that I never had the chance to read her blogs “before,” but I thank you wholeheartedly for sharing this with us now. Poignantly beautiful and brings such hope. Thank you, Wynne! 🤍
