“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always, hopes, always perseveres.” – 1 Corinthians 13:4-7
My engineering brain like lists to create order. But I think that lists can also be used in the creative process as a powerful writing tool. The quote for this post is 1 Corinthians 13 which must be one of the most often quoted verses and lists of what love is and is not.
Lists are the topic of my Wise & Shine post today: Give Me a List
More Lists
And as a bonus, here’s a list of some of my favorite WordPress lists:
Endless Weekend’s Top 5 Halloween Theme Comedy Shows:
Staying with the Halloween theme, Todd Fulginiti has a list of his Halloween Hall o’ Fame
One of my all time favorite lists is one Jack Canfora did when he turned 53 maybe because it made me feel more prepared to turn 53 in two months hence: Things I Think I’ve Learned so Far
And my last list is one I published from Miss O from her first grade journal on this blog with her permission:

And to bring the list full-circle to a conclusion, there are more links to lists in my post today on Wise & Shine: Give Me a List
In my world, lists are things you make and then leave on the counter when you go shopping.

Oh my goodness – I’m laughing!! I’ve done that so many times. I try to imagine that at least I know the list better because I wrote it out once… 🙂

Three excellent rules from Miss O. I like lists, but mine are more pragmatic than inspirational. And I having admitted that I’m not sure what to make of the me I’ve become.

Oh, what an interesting phrase you’ve spun “I’m not sure what to make the me I’ve become.” Well, I don’t know who you imagined you would be but the you that I know is delightful – and a master with words and phrases. 🙂

This is hilarious Wynne! I was having 6 lists going at a time and my new therapist encouraged me to do free writing so yesterday I decided no more lists!!! 😂😂😂
And happy early birthday 🥳 I just turned 53 last week! It’s so wonderful ❤️😎

Clearly your lists served you well as you moved to Portugal so they’re working for you! Yes, if you ever come to our house, please don’t play the piano with your feet. 🙂

Love a good list! Okay, okay, I feel like I’m hearing a lot about trying meditation. I’ve never really given it a good attempt. Feel like I might be in a better spot in my life to try. I’ll check out the app. Any other suggestions (besides locking my cynical, sarcastic side in the closet.) Ha, ha. Thanks for the lift Wynne.

Ha, ha. I think your cynical, sarcastic side doesn’t have to be locked away. I think starting with the Healthy Minds app is a good way to go and as far as suggestions – maybe I’d say to make it not painful so if you are doing a sitting meditation, try to find a comfortable seat and the other one is to stick with it long enough to let it work. It doesn’t have to be a huge time commitment per day (like 5-15 minutes) but try it for at least 3 weeks and see what happens. There are a ton of different styles so I’d keep trying til you find one that works for you.
Can’t wait to hear what you think!

The only list I make is for work. EVERY day. So I can cross things off and feel accomplished. And don’t think I haven’t done something like, make a file, and write that on the list just so I can cross it off. Some days you just need that boost.

I’m chuckling about writing things down just so you can cross them off. I know there been days I’ve written things down I’ve already done just for that purpose. Great comment about the boost?

Lists are wonderful. Can’t function without them. And I love the list of why you meditate, Wynne! Miss O’s list is equally nice and such neat printing too!
And I do love that Bible verse. It so often quoted. But still resonates all these centuries later.

Thank you, Ab! You’re right – that verse so often quoted and still resonates. Now if we could all just do it! ❤️❤️

It’s as if we’re on the same wavelength. For a week I carried this whimsical list in my mind of what I needed to do each day and as you can guess by days end I still had several unattended tasks. So finally, I think my decreased mother had to get involved (a list lover if there ever was one), I made an actual list. It went something like this; write, comment, plant the cyclamen, text Ervie, walk, go food shopping (try not to forget the Parmesan), call repair person for the washer, floss, read with Audrey. And I’ll be damned if I didn’t get to cross everything off the list. And it felt so good…C

Thank you for including my list in your list-o’-lists and thank you VERY much for the thought- and introspection-provoking post! It made me go back and look at my posts, and it turns that I listophile, too! Most of my posts are list-posts, some explicit, like the one you linked to — and thank you, again, for that! — and some implicit, with a non-bulletized list of examples, questions, or thoughts. I seem to love to organize in lists, too, and I’m glad you pointed that out, thanks again!

Hey, I’m 53, too. I should come up with a list of Things I Don’t Like About Being 53.
Really though, there’s just one thing on that list: Being 53.

Looking at letters from children has me convinced not of the ignorance of children but of the stupidity of English spelling
LikeLiked by 1 person
What an interesting observation. Yes, you’re right, English spelling is absurd. Now they start kids with “best guess spelling” and there are so many things that just make so much more sense when kids write them out the way they think they should be! Thanks for reading and commenting.

For sure. That makes way more sense than shaming them over stuff we still get wrong as professional authors.
