“Live in the sunshine, swim the sea, drink the wild air.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson

A friend joked this week that the Pacific Northwest might be one of the few places where climate change has improved our weather. After spending a couple of beautiful 75 degree October days at the beach on Whidbey Island, I have to agree that the weather was awesome. Although I still thought it a little too cold for Miss O to be in Puget Sound, she apparently thought differently.

I find it very endearing that Mr D waits for the garbage truck and waves like it’s a celebrity sighting. And since they always wave and honk back, it is a special visit every week!

Halloween preparation has begun…

My neighbor has created a beautiful sunflower garden in front of her house that is still in beautiful bloom.
How was your week?
Lovely! Sunflowers! My favorite flower. I miss the water… So thanks for sharing your beach shots. And I always say hello to the garbage men when I encounter them. They seem surprised, I guess many do not, so I can see why yours would be delighted by Mr. D’x wave. They perform a service that we would sorely miss if they did not. Have a great weekend, Wynne. 🙂

It does seem like a universal thing with garbage men. I hope it’s universally appreciated on the other side – because our guys seem to really like it!

Hehe! I love it!
We’re up in your neck of the woods, seeing my dad for the weekend. So if we see any garbage trucks with wildly waving little boys around, I’ll know it’s Mr. D. 😄

Man! That’s what the younger grand used to say when she was small and heard the garbage truck coming down the alley. She chose not to stumble over getting “garbage” out and just took the easy road. “Man coming! It’s Man!” She would highly approve of Mr. D and every wave!

When I was a little kid, I had a yellow Tonka truck, it was made of metal and close to indestructible. One summer workers started a construction project near our house and every morning there would be a line of trucks rolling by. I’m sure my parents and neighbors hated it. I though was in heaven. Like your pic, I sat in our yard and waved them good morning. Loved the photos!

Mr. D making out with pumpkins? Where did he learn this?🤫

I thought that’s what I was supposed to do to find my prince. Did I mix up my fairy tales and model the wrong behavior? 🙂 🙂 🙂

Pictoral happiness! Love the pumpkin smoocher pic. Some ‘refined’ adults might do well to lighten up their ‘proper’ lives by smooching a few pumpkins 😊

An interesting comment by your friend. We were just discussing our new designation as California-north. I may plant grapes 😊
As to the Sound, Miss O is right – it’s cold. It makes one believe one could levitate 😂

Isn’t this weather amazing, Michelle? I have a friend that is growing huckleberries in their yard. I didn’t think one could do that successfully around here. Crazy!
Yes, it does make one believe they could levitate. What a perfect and funny observation. Hope you are enjoying the lovely weekend!

I am. I cooked a perfectly lovely turkey (and assorted side dishes) for our Canadian Thanksgiving dinner yesterday (we do it on the Sunday), so today it’s dishes, digestion, and watching the windstorm. I hope you have a lovely long weekend as well.

I love sunflowers and cannot grow them here. I’ll enjoy yours, living vicariously. I love that Mr D considers the men on the garbage truck celebrities. And that they wave back. Talk about good juju for all involved.

I wonder if the garbage truck would honk for me if I stood by and waved at it? Or is that something only little kids can get away with?
Climate change has definitely impacted the PNW. I follow the weather there regularly, since my parents still live in Vancouver, WA, and I’m amazed how warm and dry it is this far into October – and it doesn’t look like there’s any end in sight. When I first lived there decades ago, weather like that was unheard of. Mid-October was always rainy and cool.

Yes – exactly. It’s weird!
Why don’t you try it with the garbage truck and let us know in a post? 🙂

Ha! Except it comes at odd hours when I’m usually not home.

Lol! I remember when I was a kid how all us neighborhood kids formed a bike posse and followed the garbage truck. It was so satisfying to see garbage being ground up. If someone put glass bottles with liquid in, bonus for us kids because the liquid would ooze out from the truck. It was disgusting but to kids absolutely fascinating! Of course, those were the days pre-multi tv channels (we had 2) and definitely pre- cell phones, video games and iPad, so we were starved for excitement!

Lol! Like I said, we were starved for excitement! I can’t see kids doing that these days! People would ask what was wrong with them, yet back then no one batted an eye!
