Another installment from my dad’s humor cards.
The backstory: My dad was a Presbyterian pastor for 40 years. He kept a well curated stack of humor cards – little stories or observations that he typed onto 5×7 cards. Then he wrote in the margins when he used that particular item. His humor was often an easy way to settle in to something deeper – by laughing and thinking about the buried truth in these little nuggets, it paved the way to an open heart.
When we cleaned out his desk after he died 7 years ago, I was lucky enough to stumble on this stack. I pull it out regularly to have a little laugh with my dear Dad. Now when I post one of them, I write my note next to his and it feels like a continuation.
Try This at a Party
Two men are shuffling down the hall of their retirement home, in opposite directions. Just as they come up to each other, one says:
“Do you know what my name is?”
The other stops, looks carefully at him for a bit, rolls his eyes as he thinks and finally answers:
“How soon do you need to know?”
Oh, funny! I’m gonna publish this one my over-55 (more like 75, really) senior living newsletter, The Inside Scoop. That oughta get a chuckle or two out of a few of us who have trouble remembering what we had for breakfast…..not to mention our names…..

lol! Here’s another one I heard not too long ago: An older gentleman was fishing in a shallow puddle outside a pub. A man saw him there, and invited him inside the pub for a whiskey. As they were sipping it, the man was thinking he’d humor the older gentleman with “how many have you caught today?” The older gentleman replied “you’re my sixth…” 😀

Giggling . . . reminds me of something my 94-year-old mother would have said while she was still dancing on this earth!

Sounds like my husband and me. I’m always like what’s that guy’s name, the one that was in the movie, remember, we went to see it a few years ago. And he’ll think for a second, and reply, “I don’t know.” Then, days later, remember exactly who I was talking about.
I tell him it’s gonna be a long ride into the sunset, I think lol
