Photos of the Week: February 8

The Eskimos had fifty-two names for snow because it was important to them: there ought to be as many for love.” – Margaret Atwood

Views from the ferry ride to Bainbridge Island with my brother.

Hitting and hiking on our weekend trip to a cabin on the Washington peninsula.

We tried to do our share of work while we were there.

Then we came home and had a week with snow in Seattle. Even the pets thought it was pretty cool. Well, the cat doesn’t think anything is that awesome (because she’s a cat), but she did at least go out in the snow.

The ducks down by the lake seemed less impressed with the snow. There was a lot of quacking which I interpreted as “What the duck??” 🙂 Mr. D also found that wet snow is heavy to shovel.

Snow angels…

We get very little snow — so we were determined to do as much with it as we could.

The sign of the week — and a gelato lid that made us smile!

  1. Wynne, this is always a good read. You put so much love in so few words with the pictures of your week. I saw the snow on your Instagram and I knew for sure it was going to be here this week. Looks like you had an amazing week and you found a gem of a sign. I hope it’s a sign for the people who read it. Keep making your days count.

  3. Such happy pictures, Wynne! And the baseball shot is beyond perfection. Everything about it-the setting, moody lighting, family life, the ball suspended clearly in midair- just wonderful!

  4. I couldn’t help but laugh at your cat’s unimpressed attitude! It’s like they have a sixth sense for not being fazed by anything, even when the snow looks so exciting. Mine acts like the world is ending when I pull out the vacuum, so I guess snow is a mere blip on her radar. Cats really do keep us grounded, don’t they?

Looking forward to more snow adventures!

  5. That is an angry-looking sky in the one picture. Love seeing your kids playing in the snow! I’m surprised your cat would go out in it. When we had our cat, he would meow at the door but when we opened the door and he got a whiff of the cold air, that was the end of that. 😂

  6. Your photos had me smiling all the post through. Beautiful, wonderful smiles. We’ve been getting snow here in New England every other day, it seems, but I still marvel each time it softly falls. And yes, I still make snow angels too (and then run into a hot bath). 🙂 EXCELLENT sign!!

  7. Looks like a fabulous start to February. I recently came across a similar quote from The Secret Life of Bees: “Did you know there are thirty-two names for love in one of the Eskimo languages?” (Chapter 8).

  9. Beautiful photos, Wynne. So nice you got to Bainbridge Island. The sky in the photo with Mr D playing baseball is stunning. Looks almost purple pink. Can’t imagine what it must’ve been like in person. A week of great smiles!
