Photos of the Week: September 14

The bad news is time flies. The good news is you’re the pilot.” – Michael Althsuler

We went to California for my niece’s baby shower. Here are the intrepid travelers.

Farm animals in the Central Valley, CA

Mountains from the plane. Left one is Mt. Rainier (14,411 ft), middle is Mt. St. Helens (8.300 ft.) and the third is Mt. Hood (11,249 ft).

I know I’m repeating myself – but Mt. Rainier is the most glaciated peak in the lower 48 United States with 25 glaciers.

I had to look up whether Mt. St. Helens had glaciers before it’s eruption in 1980. It did – it had 11 named glaciers. Now there is just one in the crater of the volcano called Crater Glacier. Good naming, huh?

And Mt. Hood has 12 named glaciers.

Cooper kept a close eye on us when we came home.

First day of Kindergarten for Mr. D.

And here we are – flying into fall.

I love Alaska Airlines for their generous welcome of kids!

  1. Wow, look at how big they’re getting! Kindergarten, a milestone year!

My oldest grand twins are now Seniors in High School and planning their next stages of life, while the youngest started Junior High and is getting a more grown-up bedroom.

My daughter can’t believe that she’s the mom of such grown-up kids, while I can’t believe I’m the grandma to the same!

This is the oldest we’ve all been! Hard to comprehend sometimes, isn’t it?!

  2. How did Mr. D do with his first day of kindergarten? What an exciting milestone for him.(And you!) Looks like you all had a fun fall trip to a beautiful place in the country. Mr. D and Miss O. must be quite savvy travelers by now. Thanks for sharing. 🙂

  3. Thank you for sharing the details of your trip to California! It sounds like a wonderful experience with beautiful sights. I’m glad you had a great time at your niece’s baby shower and that Mr. D had a successful first day of Kindergarten. The photos are stunning, especially the sunset over the Central Valley. Im from California by the way. We used to live in Huntington Beach before we moved to Lebanon.

  4. Change IS beautiful, even though I resist it. Though I am not certain about software upgrades. I love the traveling photographs especially with Mr. D in the captain’s seat. I do remember a time when that was commonplace. Starting a new year means change and growth, what a fabulous adventure Mr. D is going to have. Have a wonderful weekend.

  5. That’s amazing that Mr D got to test out the pilot’s chair! What a great way to end off his first week in Grade 1! 😊

I hope the shower went well too!

  6. So, How many of those mountains have you climbed, or thought about climbing? For some reason, I was thinking the trip to CA was a wedding…. love the picture of Mr D in the cockpit as well! Are you rested up? Saw an earlier post that you were slammed.

    1. Oh, you’re right about the wedding part too. It was a wedding reception/baby shower mix.

I’ve summitted Rainier twice, Mt. St. Helens once and snowboarded on but never attempted a climb of Mt. Hood.

I’m grateful to be rested up. Hope you are having a great weekend, DM!

  7. Aww. Love the one with the kids cuddled up in one seat on the plane and the one with Cooper looking a little forlorn about being left behind. Bet he was over the moon when you returned! What wonderful memories you make for your children!

  8. I remember when Crater Glacier formed. Pretty sure it took the scientific community by surprise.

I haven’t flown them in many years, but Alaska Airlines was always the best!

  9. We had a great view of Mount Ranier when we flew from Calgary to San Francisco this summer. And I love seeing Mr. D. flying the plane. Very few airlines do that these days. On that same flight from Calgary to San Francisco, WestJet allowed the kids into the flight deck. It was so nice to see.
