Photos of the Week: July 13

When I was young, I used to admire intelligent people; as I grow older, I admire kind people.” – Abraham Joshua Heschel

It was hot last week. I suspect us adults (and I’m talking about me) wouldn’t complain so much about it if we cooled off like kids.

We went to a Mariners game. When Mr. D put his mitt in the air, I was struck by how puny it was but how much hope it held. And then the guy next to him in an Ichiro jersey caught a pre-game ball and flipped it to Mr. D. I love the kind people in this world. Of which, there are a lot more than the news has us believe.

Anyone who listened in to the Buttercup story might find this latest chapter a little repetitive… 🙂 We discovered a baby bunny who needed to be rescued. The kids named her Poppy. Unfortunately, she succumbed to her injuries before we could release her to the wild.

Given all the mesmerizing pet eyes around here, including Rusty the gecko, the sign at 314 seemed perfect for the sign of the week.

  1. Great week, great pics. You are so right that there are far more kind people in the world than the news would lead us to believe. (The Mariners weren’t playing the Blue Jays by any chance? When that happens, your stadium is usually about 50/50 Mariners fans and Blue Jays fans!)

      1. Yup, we’re nice folks! And the Blue Jays (like the Raptors) are basically Canada’s bball team, so every game draws lots of Canadian fans, but especially in Seattle, so close to the border. 😊⚾️

  3. A nice person who flipped the ball to your son, Wynne. As a baseball fan, adults often grow into such actions. As an early teen, he might have had more interest in competing for the ball and displaying his “trophy.” I know, because my friends and I were often in hot pursuit with many others.

      1. One additional thought. Professional sports, absent crazy fans who fight each other, often bring out friendliness, people who are rooting for the same side on a sunny day, and conversation with the person next to you about relatively trivial things. They are an escape from life’s hardships. That said, how the same people are under a different set of circumstances is an unknown.

  4. Love the story about the fellow who tossed the ball to Mr. D. What a display of loving kindness! As for the gecko—is that little critter a contortionist or what? I can’t figure out whether he’s coming or going! I guess it matters not, so long as he (she?) knows which way is up!

    1. Loving kindness — yes!!

As for Rusty – he is a contortionist. I regularly think that he must have escaped because I can’t see him. And then find him upside down and sideways behind a plant. Oh, the things we learn from our pets… 🙂

      Happy Saturday my dear friend!
