Photos of the Week: April 8

I always look up at the moon and see it as the single most romantic place within the cosmos.” – Tom Hanks

I took my kids on an overnight to Bellingham. It was overly ambitious on my part because it was a lot of work for less than 24 hours – but the kids loved the pool – and the luggage cart — and the fold out bed. And did I mention the pool?

While my foot is recovering from the pool rash I earned doing a cannonball, Mr. D seems to have sustained a far more serious wound….April Fools!

Anyone remember my follow-up piece about the window after our next door neighbors moved and Miss O’s best friend was no longer on the other side of the fence? When I wrote about re-opening the window 6 months after that move and seeing a puppy on the other side, several people suggested that I should share the piece with the new neighbors. Guess what? I did – and now we have a new best friend that comes to visit from the other side of the fence.

There’s been an impressively quick turnaround on our neighborhood artwork after St. Patrick’s Day. Here’s the soda display.

As I mentioned after we ran into Macklemore, I’m not all that well versed in my rap culture. But this sign still made me chuckle. Except it wasn’t til several hours later that I got the “2 pac” part of the joke.

And the neighborhood skeleton is also looking hip – hippity hop, that is….

  1. The photos of your family adventures always bring joy to my heart and a smile to my face. Thank you! I confess though, I’m a little stuck on the St. Patrick’s Day artwork displayβ€”squint as I might, I still don’t see what I might be missingβ€”the same with the 2-pac reference in the eminem sign. Sigh. A function of unhipness, I suppose. lol

    1. Oh, I’m glad you are smiling. Here’s the funny thing about the soda displays – I often can see the patterns until I take my phone out. In this case it’s three tulips – a yellow, orange and red one. Can you see it now?

As for the rappers, I admit to only tangentially get the references. I had to look up Tupac – he was a rapper that died in 1996 at aged 25 but 5 albums of his have been released posthumously and he’s been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (I got that all from Wikipedia – didn’t know any of it!)

      1. Thank you for enlightening me! Clearly, your vision is a lot better than mine, for to me those tulips look more like cactusβ€”but I really do appreciate the creative efforts of the designers of the artwork. And thanks for the rapper research and again I must confess that even with an explanation, I still don’t get it. But that’s okayβ€”maybe I just don’t need to know! πŸ˜„

      2. I think that’s a sign of wisdom to know what you don’t need to know, Julia. All that research and I didn’t listen to any of his songs.. πŸ™‚ Happy weekend, Julia!

  2. I always love these photos! It looks like Mr. D is going to be your little prankster. You better watch out! πŸ˜‚ And I bet the kids and dogs are equally happy to have become fast friends. As for the joke, I was patting myself on the back until you mentioned 2 Pac… I missed that too!

  3. Love these tidbits, Wynne. Your kids loved the trip, I can tell from the photos. Love that the new dog is now a friend for your kids too. And that sign with the rap references is hilarious. Enjoy the rest of your long weekend!

  4. Love these shots. I must admit that my favorite is Mr D jumping on the hotel luggage carrier. We traveled with my brother last year. There’s a pix somewhere of my brother pushing me on a the hotel luggage trolley. A cool pix. I have to look for it now. Mr D has the right idea!!!!!

  5. Love all these, but I think I’m loving a whole new chapter in the backyard fence!

  6. Ah what a fun week. Yes lots of work organizing for a 24 hr trip, but well worth the memories they’ll have.
Hilarious sign. And the best part is the doggie visits. A lovely week. Have a wonderful weekend Wynne and kids! Happy Easter.

  7. Your weekly photos are something I look forward to Wynne. There’s always so much love and happiness in them. For me, I loved the skeleton one most this week. The people that dress him up seem to have so much fun, and its nice that they share it with the community

    1. Thank you, Brenda! I was out walking the other day (maybe Wednesday) and the guy was hustling to get the skeleton ready in time for Easter. I think they do have fun with it!
