Photos of the week: Dec 31

There are no ‘seven wonders’ of the world in the eyes of a child. There are seven million.” – Walt Streightiff

Christmas ships on Lake Union

Christmas Eve fun. I’m not sure how long I’ll get away with giving matching pj’s but it’s pretty sweet for now.

Mr. D mirrored how I felt by the time we got through opening presents.

Washington coast scenery and wildlife – and the animals were great too. 🙂

Heart and home of the week

Wishing that all of our signs for 2023 are more hopeful…

  1. Sobering thought to contemplate there at the end- Yikes! Great photos all around. Mr. D under the tractor made me think of “Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer…” do you remember that song?

  2. “There are no ‘seven wonders’ of the world in the eyes of a child. There are seven million.” . . . times a trillion gazillion. All His best to U 3 in 2023!

    1. Indeed, what fantastic photos, and a spectacular quote! What is it that obscures our eyes as we “grow up” and makes us miss out on those wonders and smile maybe 7 times a day instead of 7 million times? I’m so glad your new year’s celebration is filled with light, smiles, and happiness!

      1. As always, EW, you are asking all the right questions. What indeed? I suppose we narrow our focus to our goals and stop seeing everything around – like the spotlight attention of adults versus lantern awareness of children that Dr. Alison Gopnik talks about. Whatever it is, it’s awesome to spend time with kids because they help open that up again – at least for me!

Hope the same light, smiles and happiness fill your 2023, EW!

      2. I think special people can see new things through children eyes, but it takes someone special to do that. I think all too many “adults” don’t have that “special sauce”… I’m glad you do ❤

      3. Wow, what a cool comment, EW. I’m pretty sure it’s one of the things that being an older parent has opened me up to. If I’d had kids in my 30’s, I think I wouldn’t be as curious as I am now in my 50’s.

  3. Your posts keep reminding me what a nice city Seattle is to visit, and time for me to go up the Needle again. I remember coming for the opening Mariners game, maybe I should think about doing that again. – Happy new year – love the fun spirit of your photos!

    1. And the spring is such a good time to do it. Now that you mention it, I’ve never taken my kids up the Space Needle. I need to do that!

Thank you, David! Wishing you and your family a wonderful New Year!!

  4. I’m always looking for a favorite picture and never can decide on just one! But I love the Christmas Eve candlelight pictures – I see wonder on the faces of Ms. O and Mr. D and joy on yours. Beautiful! As to the matching pjs, your kids are precious. And love the sand drawings and run over by a tractor picture. As always, thank you, Wynne! Happy New Year! 🤍

  5. That sign sure is an interesting thought to close the year. Haha.

I loved seeing your photos of your family vacation. I can see what you mean by listening.

What were you and the kids holding in the pictures – that looked like candles?

    1. The candle pictures were from a Christmas Eve candlelight service.

  6. Is $4.79/gallon still what you’re paying these days?

I love that there are Christmas ships on Lake Union. That’s long been a tradition on the Columbia River in Portland/Vancouver. My parents still go every year to see them.

P.S. Where are YOUR matching pajamas??

    1. It’s a good question about the gas – that station has good signs but expensive gas so I never buy it there. I think more like $4.39. But still, it’s expensive to fill up!

Yes! Christmas ships are wonderful. Seattle was under a sheet of ice that day so I think not as many people go to their boats to join the parade – but it was still fun!

There is no way I’d look that cute in those pajamas…I know better than to even try to “perform” with kids and dogs. 🙂
