Photos of the Week: April 15

Please excuse the mess, the children are making memories.” – unknown

This is an experiment that is an offshoot of Vicki’s post about Fresh Peeps and Pink Parasols last week. My kids love putting marshmallows in the microwave so why not a peep? Deb and Vicki, I hope you enjoy the results of this experiment and if you’re going to do it at home, 15 seconds should be good. More than that and you might need to refer to the quote above…

Speaking of bunnies and chicks, we were out visiting our neighborhood animal celebrities. Daisy and Hopper, the bunnies and the ducks, PJ & the New Guy – which isn’t really the duck’s name but seemed like an apt substitute.

More celebrities and sunshine

Puddles and bubbles

I think this “Question of the Day” bodes well for the WordPress community!

      1. Good question. Don’t get me wrong, I’d like to think it’s correct. I can think of several other possibilities: not smoking, exercising, eating well, not stressing yourself out about things you can’t control, etc. Another question might be: if you did all those things right, would reading still give you this gift of 23% longer life??!! 😏😂

  1. Ha ha. I would never have thought to put a Peep in the microwave. I think the only time I’ve microwaved marshmallows is to melt them for rice krispie squares.

Interesting stat about reading. I can see how this would be possible because reading engages the brain while it also forces you to sit calmly, relax and block out distractions. All of those things would be good for your overall health and longevity, I think.

    1. What an interesting observation about reading, Michelle. And I wonder if it correlates with something else that’s healthy as well so that readers are more likely to take in information about healthy eating and exercise?

I have to credit my best friend, Katie, for introducing the microwaving of marshmallows. The kids think it’s great fun… 🙂

    1. You’ve mentioned that you like ducks – so glad you like these ones. My neighbors have kept a pair in their yard for the last few years.

Oh, and the peeps get a lot bigger when you microwave them. 🙂

  2. Science experiments! I have so many questions but the big one is- did you eat the peep after zapping it? I love that you did this, thank you, however Peeps are not allowed in my house so there’s that… I will now move on to focus on animals both real and costumed plus rainy weather fun. I know I’ve mentioned Mr. D considering a career as a chef, however given his love of water perhaps I should mention the hydrology field. This is what daughter Alison does with the USGS- water, water and more water all the time 😉

    1. Good question about eating the Peeps. I don’t eat them but Miss O is quite fond of it. But you have about the same window (15 seconds) before they become as stiff and chewy as cardboard. 🙂

I love the hydrology suggestion, Deb! What a cool job that must be for Alison!! Happy Saturday, my friend!

    1. Oh geez…I forgot to add….my main reaction:
Oh…for the love of Peeps! I disavow any encouragement resulting in microwave madness of the aforementioned treats. (But I loved the pics…oh my…what an ooey—gooey mess!) 🥰

      1. Oh, for the love of Peeps – you are so clever, Vicki!! I am considering the microwaving marshmallows and their derivatives as a phase that will pass more quickly if I don’t resist it. 🙂

  3. I’ve microwaved Peeps just to see what happens, too. I don’t even have kids to blame it on, just morbid curiosity. I love the idea of meeting the Easter Bunny, but darned he looks huge next to your son. Kind of scary huge.

    1. I love that you’ve microwaved Peeps. Did you eat them after? Yeah, all the full-bodied figures are a little intimidating for kids. I didn’t see many kids hug the Easter Bunny but he/she/they got a lot of high fives and fist bumps!

      Happy Saturday, Ally!

  4. These are heartwarming pictures, Wynne, of Miss O and Mr D! That Easter Bunny, however, is terrifying to me! 😆 Must’ve triggered a hidden childhood memory.

I’ll have to give the peeps experiment a try myself.

Hope you’re all enjoying your weekend!

    1. Thank you, Cheryl! I love your comment because you remind me how quickly they are growing even though I often don’t see it. Thank you, my friend, for bearing witness! ❤ ❤ ❤

  5. Sweet pictures, Wynne! Bubbles are so fun and magical with little ones, right? Side note: during my Easter treat shopping a couple of weeks ago, I snatched a bag of “jet puffed” marshmallows with milk chocolate inside. I thought they’d be perfect for making smores around the fire pit this summer, so I went back and bought 2 bags (discounted after Easter-woo hoo!).

  6. On another blog I saw someone making peep smores in the microwave. 🙂
Love the fluffy fluffy bun-bun! Beautiful tulips! Bubbles and puddles. Such fun! Hooray for living longer from reading. That means… more time for reading!

    1. Who knew indeed? I have to give credit to my best friend, Katie, who was lovely enough to hang out with my kids recently when I needed a break. I came home and found she’d taught them about microwaving marshmallows. 🙂
